The district also has the Civil Defense Training Institute for the training of Civil defense Personnel and Home gurds. A Disaster Management Centre at Itahar is also under process of construction. A multi utility sports Stadium at Raiganj. A multipurpose health complex having facilities of various sports is also coming up at Karnajora.

LAND AVAILABILITY :

For the promotion of industry in the district, efforts are being made by the district administration to identify the land suitable for industrialization. For this survey is being done and a land bank is been created, consisting of information of all the suitable land. The land bank would consist of the vested land, private land, government land that is being studied from feasibility point of view for industrial estate / other industries in the district. The land can be made available for residential, commercial & industrial purpose. Further land can be made available to the interested entrepreneur by the due process of acquisition of land.

Location & description of the important Plots available for industrial purpose:
a) Plot No-1, area of 100 acres, by the side of Raiganj - Balurghat 10A State High Way, Kamalabari-II G.P., Mouza- Mirual, Block- Raiganj. Plot is 1 km from N.H.34 and 4-km from Raiganj Railway station. Water- through PHE from the Kulik River which is 4 kms distance from the proposed plot.
b) Plot No-2, area -10 acres, by the side of State Highway-Raiganj -Balurghat 10A State Highway. The land is vacant - is now under possession of Public undertaking controlled by C&SSI Department, Mouza- Bogram under PS & Block Raiganj.
c) Plot No-3, area of 35 acres, by the side of NH-34. The place is at Fulhar under Sub-division Islampur. The place is between Chopra and Islampur. The land is now possessed by Sericulture Department, Govt. of West Bengal. Water - Through PHE from the river Doke & Mahananda which is only 1 km distance from the proposed plot. National Highway 31 is situated adjacent of the proposed site. Islampur (Aluabari) Railway Station is situated in 15 km distance from the proposed plot.
d) Plot No-4, area - 10 acres, by the side of NH 34. The place is at Masunda Mouza under PS & Block Itahar just adjacent to Jute Market & Itahar Girls’ High School. The land is vacant and vested. Water will be available through PHE from the nearest river Sui. The proposed plot is situated just by the side of National Highway 34.
For the purpose of industrialization the quantum of vested land, which can be made available, has also been assessed.

WATER AVAILABILITY :

The district has good annual rainfall of about 160 cm. The rivers are either rain fed or are perennial with their source from the snowmelt from the Himalayas. The main rivers in the district are Kulik, Mahananda, Dauk, Nagar, Sudhani and a number of other streams. This river network provides sufficient surface water all over the district. Underground water supply and management is satisfactory in this region through Tube Wells, Deep Tube wells and other pumpsets, here huge quantity is readily available at the depths as given below in the table.
